Upgrading of raw biogas using membranes based on the ultrapermeable polymer of intrinsic microporosity PIM-TMN-Trip

The potential of an ultrapermeable benzotriptycene-based polymer intrinsic microporosity (PIM-TMN-Trip) for the upgrading biogas is investigated. Permeation experiments were performed using in-house bespoke permeation unit pure gases and gas mixtures, included tests with model mixtures as well real from a sewage treatment plant, under dry humid conditions. Permeability CO2/CH4 selectivity either or high lie close to on recently defined 2019 Robeson upper bound based ideal permselectivities. In addition, remarkable increase in was observed after two weeks continuous exposure CO2 due significant decrease CH4 permeability. constant permeability increased upon ageing suggest that presence causes rearrangement, rather than reduction fractional free volume. mixed stage-cut order mimic separation process, results confirmed PIM-TMN-Trip membranes upgrading.
